June 2024 Newsletter
We love, serve, and gather in Christ.
Pastor’s Corner
Siblings in Christ:
Thanks to many of you who have inquired about my physical health. I thought I'd just take a moment to give an update. I have moved to Glendale Chiropractor early April for my current plan of treatment. I go twice a week late in the afternoon for PT, getting "adjusted" by the doctor, and then decompression!
My particular issue began a year or more ago with pain in my left calf. Eventually, it was determined to be caused by compressed discs in my lower back. This happens because of old(ish) age and arthritis. So the script is to "de" compress by laying me out on a mat, strapping me in and then literally pulling on my back! I hope to be taller.... Lol .. But that's how it works, slowly, over time. This will go on for a few more weeks and hopefully I'll be in less pain. While it is happening my pain doctor is giving me an epidural shot in lower back to numb the pain in the leg. I have a great deal of pain in the sciatica nerve of left leg!
Please pray for me as I feel God at work and healing will come! Meanwhile, I may be limping or wincing from arthritis pain in shoulders (next month's article, lol) not directly "connected" to back issues.
Thank you.
Pastor Doug
Your Church Council
We just want everyone to see all the ideas generated at the recent pitch-in and let you know everything is being considered.
The current focus is the Memorial Garden, and the committee will be putting stakes in the ground soon so people can see the progress on that.
***We have reordered teal pens with the correct website address. These are on the table in the entrance. Feel free to take a couple for home or to give to friends.
Wednesday Night Zoom
Wednesday night Bible Study is on vacation. It will resume August 7, 2024.
Faith Formation / Sunday Evening Zoom
Faith Formation: We meet each Sunday evening, 7 p.m., on Zoom. Reach out to Pastor for information on which passages specifically, or just join and “wing it!” All are welcome! The Zoom link is sent out with the Sunday morning email. Faith Formation is on vacation until August.
Food Pantry Date
The next food pantry will be held on Saturday, June 15 from 9-11am. We ask you to please prayerfully consider joining us as we serve our neighbors. All volunteers are welcome and needed!
Joint Worship with the Bishop
Join both families of Faith for a Worship service outdoors (weather permitting) celebrating the ministry and retirement of Bishop Bill Gafkjen. The service will be Sunday, July 21, 2024 at St. Andrews Lutheran Church at 10am.
Details are coming together, but if you want to personally give him a gift or card, please feel free to bring to service that day. We would like to put up tents outside if weather permit. If you have tents or know someone who does, please let us know.
Faith Giving Information
Faithful Faith Members...with the various giving options (traditional envelopes, direct deposit, Vanco Mobile or Vanco On-line via link from Faith’s website), we have reduced the number of offering envelopes for the congregation. Please let either the church office know or send email to bkochersperger@foxcontractors.com.
Food Pantry Corner
Our restructuring efforts are proving to be productive with finances and other resources.
We have established policies and procedures to help guide the future of the program to help those in need. Faith members and visitors have stepped up to serve in so many ways.
We have more volunteers and everyone is working hard to create a wonderful environment for clients and volunteers.
There are less things on the list for our clients to help make a more manageable shopping list, but we are providing some new items of interest and various options to provide for their families.
Team members are working to provide new choice program request forms in Spanish for our Spanish speaking clients. We hope to have those in the next month.
Faith Food Pantry Program is a team effort and it is thriving within the Hendricks County Food Pantry Coalition - meeting new partners and developing ways to collaborate together to serve.
Faith's Program also now limits the personal information collected from the clients to provide a safe environment. The Hendricks County Food Pantry Coalition supports Faith's Food Pantry in many ways including two freezers, and 2023-24 distribution of funds they have for all Hendricks County Food Pantry Coalition members.
We are also now buying items from Gleaners when they have certain items available to help save money. We were able to pick up FREE strawberries and 30-5 lb bags of fresh potatoes from Gleaners in May.
If anyone has any questions or ideas, please see a Faith Food Pantry team member.
Thanks for all the support and collaboration. Janice Lee
