October 2024 Newsletter

We love, serve, and gather in Christ.

Pastor’s Corner

Dear Family of faith:

I hope by the time you read this cool weather has moved in and the Fall season can begin!

There are so many symbols for Fall: colorful leaves, bonfires, cooler weather, daylight savings time (boo!), football games, and fall break for schools.

I love it and I hope you do as well! Remember your church in your giving and be here on Sunday services with your family!

We celebrate the symbols of Jesus every day. At church we see the symbols of the Lord: a cross, Baptismal font, an altar where we go to be altered in Holy Communion, the pulpit for the preached Word of God, the Bible and certainly in each other as the family of faith!

We are the people of God called to be symbols of Jesus in the world. In or out of church let's be the highest symbol of Jesus: Love!

Peace be with you,

Pr Doug

Pastor’s Office Hours

Tuesday: 11a-1p

If something urgent comes up, I will leave a note on the door. This is my attempt to be readily available at a set time and place. Always remember, you may contact me anytime day or night!

Joint Worship/Chili Cookoff

Sunday, October 27th, we will have a joint worship service at Faith, 10am. This will be the THIRD year in a row for our Chili Cook off! We will sample many varieties of chili and vote on a winner!! Plan on coming and bringing a friend with you!!

Wednesday Night Zoom

In Pastor’s opinion, one of the best things you can do to prepare for Sunday is to study the Bible lessons scheduled for that day. Every Wednesday evening at 7pm, a group from both churches reads and discusses the lessons! Join in, the link is sent out on email every Wednesday.

Faith Formation / Sunday Evening Zoom

Faith Formation: has moved to the 2nd and 4th Sunday evenings at 7pm, October 13 and 27. We will begin on that date studying a book called "Forty Foundations of Faith" by Stephen Siroky (available on Amazon for @$17). Everyone is invited to join us in the study of this book and join in as you are able.

God’s Work, Our Hands

Family Promise was very appreciative of all we got taken care of for their living space and for supporting them in their mission to help families. We had a great group, got a ton done and had good fellowship while we worked. What a great way to support the ELCA God’s Work, Our Hands 2024 event!!

Food Ministry Grant Awarded

Thank you for the application that you submitted on behalf of Faith Lutheran Chruch for an Indianan Kentucky Synod 2024 Food Ministry Grant. These grants are made possible through a gift from the Clifford and Nancy Ball bequest given to the Indiana-Kentucky Synod. Thanks be to God for the generosity which has blessed many, including your faith community.

Faith Lutheran Church in Avon has been awarded $1,500. It is our understanding that your faith community will be contributing at least $150 toward this project. A check will be mailed from the Indiana Kentucky Synod office on September 4, 2024. Please email Julie Walda, our synod account, at account@iksynod.org, if you do not receive the check in a reasonable amount to time.

The grant team applauds the way the various grant applications offer programs that help to alleviate hunger in their communities. Thanks for the spirit-filled generosity in your faith community that created and continues to sustain this food ministry.

Bishop Bill and the rest of the synod staff give thanks for Faith Lutheran and their partnership with the IN KY Synod. We are grateful for your on-going mission and ministry. Certainly, many people are being blessed through your mission center as you engage in this food ministry and more. Prayers that the Holy Spirit will stir anew in your congregation as you engage in the project supported by this grant.

Blessings,

Pastor Nancy and the IN-KY Synod Grant Team
